You know what I love? I love to do what I love. And that is music.
I love to music.
I find it awesome how everyone has their own gift, their own talent, their own passion they love and are good at. That just shows me that we were made with purpose by a loving Creator because along with the desires in our hearts is the skill and talent to perform it.
It would be pointless if my love for music lacked the ability to pursue it.
What if I was tone deaf?
What if it was extremely difficult for me to decipher the difference between a Major and minor chord?
What if reading music was as complicated as brain surgery to me?
What if I couldn’t even keep a steady tempo?
But it’s not like that.
Thank God.
The passion I have comes with the ability to understand and learn easily because that was what I was designed to do. I was made with purpose. You were made with purpose. We were made with different and unique purposes.
What I love might be something you find extremely difficult to do. Just like how what you love is not what I have been gifted with.
I know that I was not created to become a doctor because I flinch whenever I see commercials of people shaving thinking they’re going to cut themselves and ooze blood out of their skin.
I know I was not created to be an artist when my stick figures look worst than they did in third grade Art class.
I know I was not created to be a History teacher when I can barely remember the year I was born (okay, I’m only kidding but I’m horrible at dates in History).
And I’m completely fine with the fact that I lack the dexterity in those areas because those are not the positions I’ve been called to walk in. Plus, I have no interest or love for any of that. But I love music. And it comes easy to me. Not so easy that I don’t have to work at it but it comes at a level that is challenging but achievable because I enjoy it.
My point in all this rambling is to say that you have purpose. You have a great calling on your life. And you have been equipped with the skills to accomplish it. Don’t ever let the words of those around you knock you and keep you down. You have been made to fulfill a purpose that only you can complete. It’s your mission and no one can take it away from you. Don’t follow the career that is making the most money because if that’s not your calling, you will fail. Pursue what you have in your heart and go for it all the way! The biggest regret you’ll have is denying the talent you were given and following a false, decaying goal. Money is not the goal. Material possessions are not what life is about. And if you are going through the motions of becoming a professional just for the money then you are in it for all the wrong reasons. It won’t satisfy you and it won’t bring you happiness. Many people tell me there is no career in Music Education. They say I’ll be broke and therefore unhappy. Ha! Such lies. My happiness does not depend on the amount of my income, the car I drive, the house I call home, the jewelry I wear or any other things that are easily purchased with paper. So, do you think I let their words or thoughts stop me from pushing forward to achieve my dreams? Since when do I let man determine the course of my future? Foolishness!
I only listen to One voice, and that’s the voice of Truth; the voice of my faithful God who has promised to never abandon or forsake me. The voice that says, “For I know the plans I have for You; plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11). You need to know that this is what your Creator says to you, for you. His ways are far greater than we can even imagine and He's on our side! We just have to trust Him with all our hearts and He will lead us on His perfect path to success.
So, with all my love, I want you to know, and I mean really know, that the desires that have been intentionally planted in your heart have been rooted there for a huge purpose; to grow and prosper. So never doubt your purpose but awaken your dreams to reality.
“Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart” Psalm 37:4.
